Hyejeong Yoo (b. 1992 in Seoul) is a photographer currently living and working in Leipzig, Germany. She holds a B.F.A. in photography from Chung-Ang University in Seoul. In 2022, she received a Diploma with honors in photography in the class of Prof. Heidi Specker at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). She is currently enrolled as a Meisterschülerin (postgraduate studies for artists) with Prof. Heidi Specker at the HGB.
Yoo stages her figures within minimalist settings. Through the medium of photography, she delves into concepts such as the significance of the Other and the interplay between birth and death. She also employs videography as an extension of her performative photographs. Integral to her meticulously crafted compositions is the gentle caress of natural light, the embrace of silence, and the haunting emptiness reflected in the eyes of her protagonists.
